About Ariel
Hello! I’m Ariel, and I am a certified personal trainer in Berkeley, California. I’m from Hong Kong, but I grew up in Indiana and Michigan. I’ve been into fitness my whole life and truly enjoy being a part of my clients’ health journeys. Mindset-driven + compassionate, I leverage my background in psychology and fitness to shape a holistic approach to personal training. I coach clients in fat loss, muscle gain, corrective exercise, nutrition, as well as pre/post natal.
My favorite client story
A client of mine travels all the time, so we are always scheduling around with different time zones. I always have her show me a tour of the gyms she's at; it's so interesting to see different country's gym layouts and equipment!
My favorite exercise
Kettlebell snatches... especially when you get into a flow to the beat of a song.
My training experience
I have a broad demographic of clients. I especially love working with moms and middle-aged women. I also coach those who are more performance oriented: kettlebell training, barbell training, powerlifting, and bodybuilding. I am a corrective exercise specialist, so I also work with those with joint pain/postrehab.

From the moment I started working with Ariel, her warm and approachable demeanor made me feel comfortable. I have been working with Ariel since November on personal training, with a focus on strength training. It has been an awesome experience! She has shown me how to do so many things I was intimidated by or didn't know about. I feel like a whole new world was opened up to me with learning about the body, fitness and weights. I feel great and really strong! She is a joy to work with - she's very empathetic, very thoughtful about what she has me do, and she shares a ton of knowledge about what we're doing. I can’t speak more highly of my experience with Ariel. I’ve been in good shape most of my life, but after having a baby I struggled to get back to where I was before pregnancy. Training with Ariel has gotten me back there and then some. I feel stronger than I ever have and my energy levels are consistently higher. On top of that, Ariel is professional, communicative, and has a great sense of humor. I always look forward to working with her and she’s an overall delight to be around.

I had a great experience working with Ariel. She was my personal trainer for the past few months and I can say that I’ve learned so much about strength training within a fun, challenging environment. She tailored my program to my needs and focused on my targeted areas. she educated me thoroughly on the different exercises I was doing (including form, what that exercise was targeting, etc.) which built my confidence when training on my own. I highly recommend Ariel. I always looked forward to my sessions with her it's always so fun, she has an amazing personality and she was extremely accommodating when I wasn’t able to make certain training sessions.
This review is overdue! I’ve been a member at Equinox for several years and wasn’t interested in a trainer until someone told me about Ariel Hau. She’s awesome, very knowledgeable, patient, sweet and very professional who will always greet you with a gregarious smile. I was impressed by her in so many ways as a young trainer. I’ve had other trainers at other gyms who wouldn’t listen and who pushed me at times to cause an injury. Just because someone has been a trainer for many years doesn’t mean they’re a good fit for you. Once you’re injured, you can’t work out and then you’re starting all over again. I hate the feeling of being trained by someone who doesn’t listen. You know your body better than anyone else. One thing about Ariel, she listens to you and pushes you but not to cause an injury. She knows what you’re capable of doing because she gets to know her clients. I loved the way she pushed me but didn’t injure me. If you tell her you can’t do something she’ll find another way to get it done.
I don’t usually write reviews, but my experience at Equinox was amazing, especially thanks to my personal trainer, Ariel. I trained with her for 3–4 months, and she made the entire process less intimidating and helped me build a routine I could actually stick to. She took the time to understand my goals and lifestyle and created a workout plan tailored specifically to me. She's super easy to work with, outgoing, and I looked forward to our sessions because it felt like I was working out with a friend, she's amazing! She also shared great nutrition tips that supported my progress, she’d ask what I liked to eat and then suggest healthier alternatives and even restaurant options to try. On top of that, she encouraged me to explore other classes and connected me with another amazing trainer, John, for boxing—which I really appreciated. I ended up discovering a new activity I genuinely enjoy and probably wouldn’t have tried otherwise. Starting my fitness journey felt intimidating, but Ariel made it easy and fun. I highly recommend training with her! And big thanks to David for recommending Ariel to me, it was a perfect match! If you’re thinking about boxing, definitely take a class with Vanessa, she’s incredible. Or book a session with John at the San Ramon location; he’s amazing! They’re both super welcoming to beginners and will teach you at whatever level you’re at. They made boxing really enjoyable.
