About Karla

Over the years I have personally struggled with weight management.   I definitely understand how difficult it can be to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  It took me some time, but I've found what works best for me:  A combination of well-balanced eating (no diets), as well as exercise.

I strongly believe in the mind-body connection and that is why I have adopted a holistic approach to health, fitness, and wellness.

My mission is to help change lives by integrating Mind, Body, and Life; bringing them into Balance.

When life is balanced, you experience reduced stress and anxiety, as well as more energy and stamina.  The end result?  An overall improvement in Life!

Why a Holistic Approach?

A Holistic Approach is one that helps to infuse or bring together an individual's personality, as well as needs and goals.

This approach helps to integrate the affective (EMOTIONS), behavioral, cognitive (thoughts), and physiological (Body) levels of functioning.  It also takes into account and can address the SOCIAL and spiritual dimensions of life.

By incorporating breathing and relaxation techniques, as well as movement and flexibility training, I can help you achieve your desired results.  The Health Plan we create is unique to each client and custom fit for each individual.  Holistic Coaching helps clients achieve Balance in Mind, body, and Life.

Research has repeatedly shown that there is a strong Mind-Body connection.  When you work toward mental and physical fitness, your Life in turn, will become more full and rewarding.  Wellness becomes the state of mental, physical, and life fitness as an actively pursued goal.

My favorite client story

There is an 86-year-old lady whose daughter hired me to get her mother more fit and strong, so that is she did happen to fall again, she would be able to get up off the floor. My first day with her, I asked her to get down on the floor (just so I could get an accurate assessment). She was unable to willingly get herself down on the floor. ...so, we worked hard. We did some strength training, balance and mobility training, some bodyweight training, and even a little cardiovascular fitness. After about 5 weeks, this lady was able to get herself down on the floor (completely flat and face down). She was also able to get herself back up without assistance! She could not only do this once, but 3-4 times in a row. I think that was my most rewarding moment!!!

My favorite exercise

I love running! Most of the time, I don't even listen to music while I run... I call it my running meditation.

My favorite quote

"Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

-- Albert Einstein

My training philosophy

Beginners Mind is something that resonates strongly with me. It basically means meeting yourself where you are at today... The body changes and is different from one day to the next; stress can also have an impact on the body. Approach each day and each situation as if it is the first time that you are doing it. Stay present in the moment; the Here & Now... What I expect is 100% effort.

My training experience

Age is not a factor, when training with me. I work with anyone who is willing to put the effort in and at least try. I don't expect perfection. What I do expect is effort. I'm here to keep clients accountable and motivated.

Karla is phenomenal!! She has done wonders working with my mom (who is 82) and I wish we could work with her forever. I was trying to get my mom strong enough physically and mentally to actually go somewhere during the day so she could be around people rather than spending each day alone and Karla accomplished that. Karla encourages my mom to challenge herself while at the same time being caring and encouraging. In addition, she's very knowledgeable and from day 1, she walked in "with a plan" for my mom. Today is my mom's first day at our local YMCA, which provides a "community" of other seniors. I'm so grateful to Karla - her demeanor was perfect for us, she's kind, very knowledgeable, challenging, motivating and just a wonderful person. We feel lucky to have found her.

Karla was very professional. She listened and I’m sure will come up with a program that will work well for me. She gave me two doable tasks for the days before we meet again.
